What is Meditation?
Meditation is a tool for rediscovering the body’s own inner intelligence. Practiced for thousands of years, it’s not about forcing the mind to be quiet; it’s about finding the silence that’s already there and making it a part of your life. Meditation fits in with your daily self-care and leads to wellness; you brush your teeth, wash your face, and now, you meditate.
Don’t let the “primordial” scare you. Primordial refers to the sounds of nature, like thunder, wind, and rain. We use the sounds that the ‘verse puts out—specifically, the sound the ‘verse was making when and where you were born.
There’s a Vedic calculation to find what sound the universe was making when you were born. You can choose to use the cosmic sound or have your own anchoring thought, prayer, or devotional. I often use the Jesus prayer as my anchor. The idea is to stop the mind from wandering but to do so gently, allowing the mind-body-spirit complex to heal and align to function as one whole person. The mind will always wander; it is what it was created to do. To think! With meditation, we are slowing down the rapid-fire thoughts to allow Spirit room into our lives. This is an act of free will that unites us with our Creator. It's probably a good idea to let Him do the talking.

How will Primordial Sound Meditation affect my health?
Doctors increasingly cite stress as a significant contributing factor to most illnesses. Even though meditation should not be considered a cure, research has shown it to be beneficial for many health problems. As stress is significantly eliminated through Primordial Sound Meditation, our minds and bodies begin functioning effectively, creating health, vitality, and happiness.
“Everyone wants to go to the party. No one wants to stay home and clean up.”

We didn’t get where we are with our health overnight. If we intend to change anything, we have to make small and permanent habit changes. Primordial Sound mediation is the tool that gets you there. No matter where you are with your health, meditation can only improve your current situation. Breathing is the surest way to continue living.

But why primordial sound meditation?
When we meditate using a primordial sound mantra assigned to us at birth, we dive into the cosmic vibration of infinite possibilities. This is why we don’t listen to music or talk (too much) during meditation. When you take your second PSM class, I calculate the sound the universe was making on the day, time, and location of your birth. We then use that sound as your personal mantra.
In Primordial Sound Meditation, you align your body, mind, and soul to the vibration the ‘verse was making when you were born. What could be better than Source giving you instructions for health and wellness that you don’t need to understand or decode? It’s cosmic, baby!
But why? Why not Zen Buddhist Meditation or Transcendental or Tibetan or Cambodian?
Meditation comes in many forms, and what might work for some may not work for others. Primordial Sound Meditation is the quickest, easiest, and gentlest way to slip into a pool of infinite consciousness. It is based on a system developed 5000 years ago in India. We are hedging our bets on the Vedas, having gotten this right so long ago, and we are backing up our bets with science and evidence-based results.

Is Meditation Considered Prayer?
Prayer is when you are talking to God, and meditation is when God is talking to you.
God exists in a place beyond spacetime. This field of silence is the birthplace of happiness, creativity, and infinite possibilities. From this field of pure potentiality, we get our bursts of inspiration, our most intuitive thoughts, and our deepest sense of connection to the Universe. Practicing meditation daily allows us to weave silence and stillness into our minds and bodies to create a life of greater compassion and fulfillment. Meditation is a journey to the center of our very being, a journey to emotional freedom, and a journey to the reawakening of our unconditional self.

"I've tried meditation before, I just can't quiet my mind! Why should I try meditation with you?
We have been there and done that! We have tried many different types of meditation, including Zen and transcendental. Anyone telling you that you need to try harder to quiet your mind is trying to sell you something that can’t be bought. Our minds were made to have thoughts. Primordial Sound Meditation gives you a mantra to focus on so your brain doesn’t have to fight the thoughts. It’s a process. We must respect the process.

"Uh, Yeah. I am not religious" OR "I'm not changing my religion and you can't make me."
Good. We like you just the way you are. No religion is taught here. Come as you are. We are not a religious organization. As we like to tell our clients, you don’t have to be religious to understand these concepts, but it helps.

What clothes should I wear? What food should I eat?
Wear what you have on and eat what you like. When you come in for an Ayurvedic consultation, we can develop a food list specific to your body type (dosha). In the meantime, check out our shop of uniquely curated items specifically for health and well-being. We have curated items that use the practice of Ayurvastra, a system of using organic cotton and natural dyes such that minerals are left on the fabric to nurture your skin simply by wearing them. I think this is much better than wearing manmade fabrics which off-gas chemicals and make us ill in the long run.

I don't do New Age Woo-Woo
Phew! Neither do we. What we teach is age-old, tried, and tested. Everything we teach is founded on 5000 years of tradition from the Rishis in India and backed by evidence-based, peer-reviewed science. I have the white papers if you want to review the material yourself.

I love Jesus. Is Meditation against his teachings?
I love Him, too. He also meditated. When you put Him first, you can’t go wrong.
During meditation, we are not praying. We are becoming the stillness that is already there, listening for God. God is in the gap. God is in the silence. Just sit with Him. You are in the safest place you can be when you commune with God.
Not everyone gets this concept. Some people aren’t there yet. That’s ok. You walk your path. I’m right there with you.

I don't have a lot of time and I am done spending money on gadgets
Well, friend. You’ve come to the right place. Daily mediation is what you make it and Primordial Sound Meditation requires two things for success:
1. The ability to close your eyes.
2. The ability to be seated or be in a comfortable position.
No gadgets, no special gear. Deelyboppers are optional.

Ayur-what? Seriously, it's 2024, why are you talking about this ancient Indian stuff?
Health, longevity, and vibrancy of life are all tied to what we eat, when we eat, where we live, and what we consume. This “Indian stuff” has been freeing people from illness, and now, in our modern world, the revolving door of pill-popping. Western Medicine is great. I am all for using it in acute situations. In the meantime, why not live the healthiest life you can?

What are the Doshas?
“Dosha” is the Sanskrit word for body constitution. Essentially, what you are comprised of.
Each dosha is derived from the building blocks of nature–the five elements of space, air, fire, water, and earth–and represents a unique blend of physical, emotional, and mental characteristics inherent in every person. Everyone has all three doshas–but the amount of each we’re born with varies. That blend of doshas is what makes up each person’s individual dosha type. You can take our customized dosha quiz in Class One to find out your own elemental makeup.
Vata represents movement and the qualities of space and air.
Pitta represents transformation and the qualities of fire and water.
Kapha represents structure and the qualities of earth and water.

What branch of yoga and meditation do you teach?
Raja Yoga is the branch of yoga under which Hatha Yoga is situated. I practice and teach Hatha Yoga, a gentler form that prepares the mind for meditation.
Primordial Sound Meditation is the form of meditation I practice and teach, and it prepares the body for movement and healing.
Raja Yoga emphasizes mental and spiritual aspects, while Hatha Yoga focuses on the physical aspects. Raja Yoga includes meditation, concentration, and mental discipline, while Hatha Yoga includes Asanas, Pranayama, and other physical practices intended to heal trauma, create suppleness in the body, and allow for easier movement for daily activities. This type of yoga is not associated with kundalini yoga, nor do we associate it with any spiritual kundalini-related exercises.
Raja Yoga is a study of the human mind, a way of becoming aware of our habitual tendencies, ultimately transcending the ego. Hatha yoga, through meditation, creates synergy between the body-mind-intellect complex.
